The Semiquincentennial Burst
250 years of freedom in every explosive sip.
A bold, blazing celebration in a glass — this cocktail layers patriotic red, white, and blue with a literal fizzing "explosion" of flavor. Tart cherry and hibiscus represent the red, a creamy coconut float stands in for the white stars, and butterfly pea flower gin creates a stunning electric blue base that shifts color as you stir. It's a fireworks show you can drink, crafted to honor 250 years of American independence.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz butterfly pea flower-infused gin (or blue gin)
- 0.5 oz blue curaçao
- 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz hibiscus-cherry syrup (equal parts cherry juice, hibiscus tea, and sugar, reduced)
- 0.25 oz coconut cream
- 2 oz chilled sparkling water
- 1 oz grenadine (for the base layer)
- Crushed ice
- Edible gold luster dust (optional, for extra sparkle)
Instructions
- Make the hibiscus-cherry syrup ahead of time: combine ½ cup cherry juice, ½ cup strong hibiscus tea, and ½ cup sugar in a saucepan. Simmer 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Cool completely.
- Chill your liberty pint glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
- Slowly pour the grenadine into the bottom of the chilled glass — do not stir. This creates the red base layer.
- Fill the glass ¾ full with crushed ice.
- In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine the butterfly pea flower gin, blue curaçao, lemon juice, and hibiscus-cherry syrup. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
- Slowly strain the shaken mixture over the back of a bar spoon onto the crushed ice so it layers above the grenadine, creating a deep purple-to-blue middle layer.
- Gently top with the chilled sparkling water to create the fizzing 'explosion' effect.
- Carefully float the coconut cream by pouring it slowly over the back of a bar spoon to create the white top layer.
- If desired, dust lightly with edible gold luster dust over the coconut float for a sparkling fireworks shimmer.
- Garnish with the red-white-blue fruit skewer and the orange peel flame twist on the rim. Serve immediately and watch the colors explode as it's stirred!
