A bold, electric cocktail that mirrors the intoxicating chaos of a wild Vegas night — bright neon layers, a smoky whiskey backbone, a rush of citrus adrenaline, and just enough sweetness to keep you coming back for more. The edible gold shimmer dusted on top reflects those blinding casino lights, while the chili-salt rim delivers a surprise kick, just like Vegas always does. One sip and you're all in.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz bourbon (smoky, e.g. Woodford Reserve)
- 0.5 oz mezcal
- 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz fresh blood orange juice
- 0.5 oz honey syrup (1:1 honey and water)
- 0.25 oz Campari
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 dash cayenne tincture (or a pinch of cayenne)
- Large ice cube or sphere
- Chili-salt mix for rim (equal parts kosher salt, chili powder, smoked paprika)
- Edible gold shimmer dust (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the rim: Mix together kosher salt, chili powder, and smoked paprika on a small flat plate. Run a lemon wedge around half the rim of the glass, then dip that half into the chili-salt mixture. Set aside.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, mezcal, lemon juice, blood orange juice, honey syrup, Campari, Angostura bitters, and cayenne tincture.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for 12–15 seconds until well chilled.
- Place a large ice cube or sphere into the prepared rocks glass.
- Strain the cocktail over the large ice cube.
- To flame the orange peel: hold a wide strip of orange peel skin-side out over the drink, hold a lit match between the peel and the glass, then sharply squeeze the peel to express the oils through the flame, creating a brief flash. Drop the peel over the ice.
- Finish with a pinch of edible gold shimmer dust over the top of the drink for that Vegas glow.
- Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly — just like Vegas (kidding).
