First Egress
One small sip for you, one giant leap for your taste buds.
First Egress captures the breathtaking moment an astronaut floats free of the airlock for the first time — the cold, silent vastness of space, the electric rush of awe, and the fragile beauty of Earth glowing below. Cool, crisp, and effervescent, it layers the icy clarity of aquavit with the floral weightlessness of elderflower, a deep cosmic indigo from butterfly pea flower, and a slow cascade of silver edible shimmer that drifts through the glass like a suited figure tumbling in zero gravity. A squeeze of lemon shifts the drink from deep space blue to a radiant aurora violet — mirroring that first, jaw-dropping glimpse of the sunlit horizon.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz aquavit (preferably a clean, caraway-forward style)
- 0.75 oz St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz butterfly pea flower syrup (1:1 simple syrup steeped with dried butterfly pea flowers)
- 1 oz chilled tonic water
- 1 pinch edible silver shimmer dust
- Ice (for shaking)
Instructions
- Chill a coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes before building the drink.
- Combine the aquavit, St-Germain, lemon juice, and butterfly pea flower syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty cold.
- Double-strain into the chilled coupe glass to achieve a silky, clear pour.
- Gently top with chilled tonic water, pouring slowly over the back of a bar spoon to preserve the effervescence.
- Pinch a tiny amount of edible silver shimmer dust between your fingers and release it just above the surface of the drink, letting it drift and settle like floating debris in zero gravity.
- Balance a dehydrated lemon wheel dusted with silver luster on the rim of the glass.
- Serve immediately and watch the color slowly shift from deep indigo toward violet as the citric acid reacts with the butterfly pea flower — your personal sunrise over Earth's limb.
