Alice's High Desert Bloom

Alice's High Desert Bloom

Wild, bright, and wonderfully her — just like turning 22 in the Gem State.

A celebratory sparkler built around Alice's milestone 22nd birthday in the rugged, beautiful landscape of Idaho. Huckleberry — Idaho's beloved wild berry — forms the heart of this drink, while elderflower liqueur and fresh lemon bring a youthful, floral brightness. A rosé Champagne float ties it all together with festive effervescence, just like Alice herself.

Glass: Champagne flute or coupe glassGarnish: A sugared rim with a thin lemon wheel and a few fresh or frozen wild huckleberries threaded on a cocktail pickPrep: 5 minutesDifficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz huckleberry vodka (or plain vodka muddled with 1 tbsp fresh/frozen huckleberries)
  • 0.5 oz St-Germain elderflower liqueur
  • 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz chilled dry rosé Champagne or sparkling rosé (float)
  • Sugar mixed with a pinch of dried lavender (for rim)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass: Mix 1 tsp sugar with a pinch of dried lavender on a small plate. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe or flute, then dip and twist to coat the rim. Set aside.
  2. If using plain vodka, muddle 1 tablespoon of huckleberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker until well broken down.
  3. Add the huckleberry vodka (or plain vodka with muddled berries), St-Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  4. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled.
  5. Double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into the prepared rimmed glass to remove any berry solids.
  6. Gently pour the chilled rosé Champagne over the back of a bar spoon to float it on top, preserving the bubbles.
  7. Garnish with a thin lemon wheel resting on the rim and 2–3 huckleberries on a cocktail pick laid across the glass. Serve immediately.
